Kitchen Renovations for Central Coast Families

The kitchen is where breakfast gets made, homework gets done and everyone ends up at a party. It should be built to handle all of that without a fuss.

The heart of a Coast home

Central Coast family life is busy and a bit sandy. School runs, sport on Saturdays, a barbecue with the neighbours, grandparents staying over at Christmas. Most of it passes through the kitchen. A good renovation plans for that traffic rather than for a magazine photo.

What families here ask for most

Room for more than one person. A second prep zone or a wider island so two people can cook without a traffic jam.

A place for the kids. Stools at the island for homework and snacks, out of the path between fridge and cooktop.

Storage that actually fits. Deep drawers for pots, a proper pantry, a tall cupboard for the broom and a spot for lunchboxes. See cabinetry and storage.

Somewhere to hide the mess. A butler's pantry for the kettle, toaster and dirty dishes when people come over.

A tough bench. A surface that handles hot pans, school craft and spilt cordial. See benchtops and splashbacks.

A link outside. A servery window or wider door to the deck for summer evenings.

Kitchens by era

Holiday cottages and fibro homes on the peninsula and around The Entrance — small, closed galley kitchens, often worth opening to the living area.

1970s and 80s brick veneer at Kincumber, Green Point, Narara and Berkeley Vale — L-shaped kitchens with timber-look laminate, ready for an island.

2000s estate homes at Wadalba, Hamlyn Terrace and Woongarrah — open plan already, but with builder-grade cabinets that are wearing out.

Hillside and beach homes at Terrigal, Wamberal and Avoca — bigger kitchens where views and entertaining shape the design.

Budgets that make sense

Not every kitchen needs to be gutted. If the cabinets are sound, a kitchen makeover can change the whole look for less. If the layout is the problem, a full kitchen renovation with proper design is the better spend.

The 2026 cost guide shows the ranges, and the renovation steps page explains how long each stage takes.

FAQs

Questions people ask before they commit

What does a kitchen renovation cost on the Central Coast?

As a 2026 guide only, a makeover on sound existing cabinets is often $12,000 to $22,000, a full replacement in the same layout $18,000 to $32,000, a custom family kitchen with an island $32,000 to $52,000, and a larger kitchen with a butler's pantry and layout changes $52,000 to $85,000 or more. Appliances are usually extra.

How long are we without a kitchen?

Usually two to four weeks on site. Cabinetry is built before the old kitchen comes out, and the wait between cabinet install and benchtop install is often the longest stretch.

Can we still choose engineered stone?

No. Engineered stone benchtops, panels and slabs have been banned in Australia since 1 July 2024 because of the silicosis risk to workers. Porcelain, natural stone, laminate, timber and compliant low-silica products are the alternatives.

Who builds the kitchen?

Kitchen renovation work is carried out in partnership with Coastal Renovation Group, a licensed NSW builder. Licence and insurance details are provided on request.
